Musk gleeful as he discusses ‘dismantling’ our government

I hope we all don’t forget anytime soon the spectacle we witnessed this past week at the White House when Elon Musk showed up to an official meeting in the Oval Office dressed as if he had just dropped in before heading out to lunch at Red Lobster.

To further insult the American people and degrade the Office of the President, he brought his 4-year-old son to the meeting. Musk’s mission was to highlight his progress in dismantling the government and the billions of dollars he has saved in identifying corruption, waste and inefficiency — all without providing any evidence, of course.

What upset me the most was the expression of glee on Musk’s face as he discussed mass firings, department closures, funding cancellations and the like as if he were a high school student presenting his science project to the class. There was no mention of the thousands and perhaps millions of people who will suffer as a consequence of Trump’s agenda enacted by Musk.

Government can’t and shouldn’t be run like a business. Musk’s comments reminded me of the corporate downsizings and outsourcing, like those I experienced in the 1980s and ’90s, when business managers gleefully announced layoffs and moving jobs out of the country that they said were being done for many of the same reasons Musk now claims to justify his actions. We’re trying to claw back the jobs we gave away in order to keep our economy growing.

I’ve seen enough and I’m committed to doing as much as I can to stop this onslaught. I hope other Americans will do the same. If we do nothing, it will be very difficult to reinstate our institutions once they are gone.

I believe there’s probably a lot of glee in China and Russia these days as they watch our nation crumble from within. They don’t need to fire a shot.

Bruzan Taylor has his vote for reelection in April

I am 88 years old and have never missed a vote of any kind. I am getting darned tired of voting for the least worse candidate and that is why it is refreshing to vote for Naperville City Councilwoman Jennifer Bruzan Taylor, who is seeking reelection on April 1.

She has stayed the course of doing what is right for Naperville and not been swayed by some groups who benefit only themselves.

She is a definite asset to this city and we need more like her.
