Letters to the Editor: Trump’s perspective clearly different than that of Lincoln; Golden Rule applies when voting for a president; Harris supports women’s reproductive rights and has our vote

Trump’s perspective clearly different than that of Lincoln

Few will deny the wisdom of the first Republican Party president, Abraham Lincoln. One quote attributed to Lincoln when asked about the Civil War was this: “Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”

When former President Donald Trump was recounting an assassin’s bullet striking his ear during his acceptance speech for the Republican Party nomination, he said, “There was blood pouring everywhere and yet in a certain way I felt very safe because I had God on my side. I felt that.”

The difference in perspective is all the difference.

Golden Rule applies when choosing a presidential candidate

Today we placed a political sign on our front lawn that reads, “Let’s support the presidential candidate who follows the Golden Rule.”

If our neighbors question who this individual is, we’ll ask them which candidate they believe would treat them as they would want to be treated. Most likely, their choice will be the same as ours.

The candidate who follows the Golden Rule is the one who we all need to vote for in November.

P.S. Our choice is Vice President Kamala Harris.

Harris supports women’s reproductive rights and has our vote

Indivisible Naperville proudly endorses Vice President Kamala Harris for president of the United States. Women are fed up with Republican politicians’ obsession with controlling women’s bodies and deserve to have a president who will restore the protections of Roe v. Wade and the ability of women to make decisions about their own bodies.

In January 2024, Harris embarked on a nationwide reproductive freedoms tour. She started in Wisconsin on Jan. 22, the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, warning us about the GOP plan to ban abortion in all 50 states and to criminalize doctors and women who travel out of state for reproductive care. In total, she traveled to 16 states.

Republican vice president nominee JD Vance said in 2022 that he was open to a national abortion ban during his campaign for Senate. After the 2023 referendum in Ohio, when the voters ensured access to abortion via a constitutional amendment, he said on X that the voters mistrust the GOP on this issue.

The transition plan of a Trump/Vance presidency is called Project 2025 and would, among other drastic changes to our way of life, eliminate access to abortion pills, collect a massive trove of data on abortions and patients, remove requirements that insurance cover certain emergency contraceptives, and revive religious and moral exemptions for providing contraception. Project 2025 states that abortion is not health care.

At a Wisconsin rally on Tuesday, Harris asked the crowd what kind of country we want to live in — one of freedom, compassion and the rule of law or one of chaos, fear and hate. Vance was correct when he said voters don’t trust the GOP on this issue. We trust Vice President Harris and her vision for the country.
