Lightning strike to a tree causes some damage to some Lake Bluff homes Wednesday

Some Lake Bluff residents suffered property damage Wednesday morning after a tree was struck by lightning, village officials said.

Village Administrator Drew Irvin stated at about 6:40 am, lightning hit a tree near the intersection of Hancock and Garfield Avenues. He noted the debris and limbs flew in a radius of approximately 250 feet after the lightning hit.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Irvin wrote in a text.

He added no one was injured due to the lightning strike, but estimated at least five or six homes were hit by debris causing damage to garage doors, windows and roofs.

In addition, at least two vehicles were hit, resulting in body damage and a broken window.

Irvin said .79 inches of rain fell in Lake Bluff during Wednesday’s storm. However, the village did not have any flooding.

In Lake Forest, city spokeswoman Dana Olson was not aware of any reports of damage.
