A Lowell man was charged Monday with several felonies in a drunken one-vehicle crash that injured him and three passengers on the way home from a Crown Point bar.
Landen Briggs, 21, is not in custody. When arrested, he is ordered held on a $8.0000 cash bond.
Police responded at 3:26 a.m. Sept. 14, 2024 to the 10000 block of Merrillville Road in Crown Point after they got an iPhone crash notification.
At first, the officer didn’t see a vehicle, then noticed the silver Ford car flipped on its side in a nearby creek. Four people — Briggs, his male friend and two young women — were bloodied, but without life-threatening injuries They were taken to the hospital.
At the hospital, Briggs at first declined a blood draw, but the officer got a warrant.
One woman told police her friend came to her house to go out. After they took a rideshare to Crown Point, the friend started talking to Briggs and his friend, whom she knew, and they later offered to give them a ride home.
All were hurt. One woman had severe head trauma and a broken nose. The male friend had various injuries, including a dislocated hip and a head injury.
Toxicology tests revealed Briggs’ blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.
He is charged with three counts of causing serious bodily injury when operating a motor vehicle with an ACE of .08% or more, three counts of causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and five misdemeanors.
