WASHINGTON — Max Shulga had 14 points and 10 rebounds to help VCU beat Loyola 62-55 on Saturday in an Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinal.
The top-seeded Rams advanced to the championship game against George Mason, which beat Saint Joseph’s 74-64 in the second semifinal. VCU and George Mason tied for the regular-season championship.
The Ramblers (22-11) battled back from a nine-point halftime deficit and took a 51-50 lead on Kymany Houinsou’s basket with 5 minutes, 10 seconds to play. But VCU answered with a 9-0 run and held on for their 10th straight win.
Miles Rubin led the way for the Ramblers with 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Sheldon Edwards also scored 12 points. Phillip Russell scored 10 points for the Rams.
