Man, 26, killed and woman wounded in Near South Side shooting

A 26-year-old man was killed and a woman wounded Saturday night following a drive-by shooting near 21st Street and Michigan Avenue on the Near South Side, Chicago police said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. Chicago police said they found the man and woman shot in the 100 block of East 21st Street.

Police said the two were walking down the street when a white SUV approached and someone from inside the car began shooting at them.

The man was shot multiple times and transported in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The woman, 25, suffered a wound to the left leg and also was transported to Northwestern. She was listed in good condition.

At the scene, crowds of people walked along South Michigan Avenue as paramedics loaded the man and woman into ambulances.

No one was in custody, and detectives from Area Three were investigating.
