Man, 56, found fatally wounded after argument in South Shore neighborhood

A 56-year-old man was discovered fatally wounded overnight after an argument in the South Shore neighborhood, Chicago police said.

About 1:35 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 7800 block of South Merrill Avenue and discovered a victim lying unresponsive in a front yard, police said. The victim had suffered two wounds to the head and left hand, and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Alonzo Smith of the 7700 block of South Clyde Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A witness heard two men involved in an argument before shots rang out, police said. No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
