Man charged with breaking into Gary Animal Control

A Highland man is accused of breaking into Gary Animal Control earlier this month.

Brandon Jorgensen, 32, is charged with burglary, a Level 5 felony.

Around 7 a.m. on Dec. 10, a Gary Animal Control employee arrived at work and found a man inside the fenced-in property, located at 625 W. 9th Place, according to the probable cause affidavit. He told her that he was there to adopt a dog, but she told him to call the adoption company and gave him the number. The man left in a car driven by a female, court records state.

The property is surrounded by a barbed wire fence and gate. The employee found blood on the gate lock, the west door of the building had a lock knocked off, and there was more blood on the door handle and various supplies, records state. In the garage storage area, some boxes were torn open and boxes containing fleece blankets were missing.

A few days before the incident Jorgensen and a woman were arrested for theft by the Hobart Police, and Jorgensen was later charged with theft, a Level 6 felony, and misdemeanor theft, the affidavit states.
