A Carpentersville man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a Friday night crash in which three people had to be extricated from a car with serious injuries, West Dundee police said.
The incident began about 7:40 p.m. when Samuel Garcia, 37, of the 500 block of Windhham Trail, allegedly drove his Chevy Trailblazer into a parked car in the 100 block of South Second Street, police said. He fled south and struck a sign near South End Park, turned west on Strom Drive and ran a red light at Route 31, colliding with a Honda Accord and a Honda Civic, the police report said.
Three people in the Accord had to be extricated from their vehicle, police said. They were taken to area hospitals with severe injuries and now are in stable condition, the report said. The one person in the Civic was treated at the scene.
In conjunction with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, West Dundee police charged Garcia with nine felonies relating driving under the influence of alcohol, seven misdemeanor offenses and 9 traffic offenses.
Garcia will be taken into custody upon his release from the hospital for his injuries, the report said.
