A man survived his attempt to crash his truck into a moving train at the town of Griffith’s busiest train tracks Friday afternoon.
Griffith Police at around 1:40 p.m. received a call about a missing 75-year-old man who suffers from dementia, Griffith Police Chief Al Tharp said in a release late Friday afternoon.
About an hour later, officers were called to the 200 block of South Broad Street for a man who’d crashed into a moving train, Tharp said. The man — identified as the missing man — was conscious, alert and walking when they arrived, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Police are still investigating, but a video captured of the incident shows a red pickup truck waiting behind several stopped cars at the track when it suddenly started heading toward the moving train at a fair rate of speed. The moving train obscured any impact in the video.
