A North Chicago man was charged with attempted murder after shooting a co-worker Thursday evening at a Vernon Hills shopping center, police said.
Jhonattan Garcia-Nava, 36, was taken into custody at around 1 a.m. Friday at a residence in Waukegan, police said, about six hours after the shooting at the Hawthorn Hills Square Shopping Center. He is being detained in the Lake County jail.
Vernon Hills police said the shooting was the result of a dispute between co-workers at an area business. The male victim was reported to be in critical condition after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said they were withholding other details because of the ongoing investigation.
Police were called to the shopping center, which is on the southwest corner of Townline Road and Milwaukee Avenue, at around 6:48 p.m. Thursday.
The shopping center was closed for several hours in the wake of the shooting, but has re-opened.
Police said other charges are pending against Garcia-Nava. He is scheduled for a detention hearing Monday in Lake County Court.
