Police detained a man at Trump Tower Tuesday evening after a large emergency response, including SWAT teams, were called to the downtown skyscraper for a report of a firearm inside a hotel room.
Police were first called to the building at about 6:50 p.m., according to a preliminary statement from the department. Around 8:30 p.m., law enforcement and fire department vehicles were lined up outside the tower while officers with bikes told passersby that only residents of the tower were permitted to approach the building.
Around 9 p.m., officers could be seen at the building’s loading dock on lower Wabash Avenue surrounding a man in a red shirt with his hands behind his back. A squad car drove into the loading dock and the gate to the loading dock shut briefly before it reopened and a squad car drove back out. Police officers and department media representatives could be seen going inside the building.
A department spokesperson later said the man had been detained without incident and that the investigation would continue.
