Man dies, another critically wounded in separate shootings Friday night on South Side

One man died from his injuries, and another was left in critical condition after they were wounded within minutes of each other Friday night in separate shootings on the South Side, Chicago police said.

The first shooting happened shortly after 9:15 p.m. in the 10900 block of South Wentworth Avenue in the West Roseland neighborhood.

A 42-year-old man was in the rear of a residence with several people when two gunmen approached and opened fire, police said. The man suffered multiple wounds to the body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

About 20 minutes after the Roseland attack, another man was critically wounded in a separate shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, police said.

Shortly after 9:35 p.m., a man was sitting in a parked vehicle in an alley in the 1300 block of West 47th Street, when shots rang out hitting him in the head. He was taken in critical condition to UChicago Medicine.

No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
