Man dies, boy, 11, in critical condition following overnight accident on DuSable Lake Shore Drive

A driver was pronounced dead, and his 11-year-old passenger was critically injured overnight in a vehicle accident on DuSable Lake Shore Drive in the Bronzeville neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m., the driver was in the 4600 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive when he last control of his vehicle after a tire blew and struck a tree, police said.

The driver suffered multiple injuries during the crash, and was taken in critical condition to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead. An 11-year-old passenger suffered blunt force trauma tothe head and body, and was taken to the same hospital where he remains in critical condition, police said.

The Major Accidents Investigation Unit was on the scene investigating the crash.
