Man dies following beating in West Dundee; roommate facing charges

The May 2 death of a Hampshire man resulting from a beating April 23 in West Dundee has been deemed a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Thomas Hanetho, 65, died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge from complications of blunt force injuries to the head, according to an autopsy.

Kyle R. Blits, 34, whose address was not provided, was arrested shortly after being involved in a fight with Hanetho at a home on South Third Street, an incident described by West Dundee police as a “physical altercation (that) occurred between roommates.”

Blits was charged at the time with three counts of aggravated battery, two counts of domestic battery and one count each of trespass to residence, criminal damage to property and attempted criminal trespass, according to Kane County circuit clerk’s office records. He was also arrested on an out-of-state warrant.

Blits is being held at the Kane County jail. It’s not known if the Kane County state’s attorney’s office will file additional charges following Hanetho’s death.

A protective order for Hanetho was filed against Blits on April 28, court records show.

Hanetho’s address was listed in Hampshire in by the medical examiner’s reports but records show the West Dundee home where the incident took place belonged to Hanetho’s late parents. It’s unclear who was living in the home at the time of the fight.
