Man discovered fatally wounded in stairwell of building Wednesday night on South Side

A 34-year-old man was discovered fatally wounded Wednesday night in a stairwell of an apartment complex in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, Chicago police said.

The victim was found shortly before 8:25 p.m. in the stairwell of an apartment building in the 7800 block of South Marshfield Avenue with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No one was in custody for the slaying, and detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
