Man found unresponsive in Humboldt Park died from assault, medical examiner says

An unidentified man found dead near a Humboldt Park strip mall died in an assault that was ruled a homicide, an autopsy found Thursday.

Authorities found the man lying on the ground in the 4300 block of West North Avenue about 11 p.m. Monday with an apparent stab wound to the back, according to Chicago police.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and later died, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The autopsy performed Thursday found that the man died from multiple injuries from an assault.

Police had not identified the victim, but estimated his age was between 35 and 40 years old, while the medical examiner’s office said the race of the victim was unclear. Police on Thursday said no one was in custody as detectives continued their investigation.
