Man gets 27 months for stealing mail

A federal judge sentenced a man to 27 months Thursday after he admitted stealing mail.

Nurldon Green III, 30, of Highland and Chicago, pleaded guilty Sept. 26 to theft of mail, according to court records. He will also serve two years probation.

Federal court records state Green was arrested in Demotte by local police on Sunday, June 5, 2022 after he was caught dressed like a letter carrier and taking mail and checks from roadside mailboxes. The indictment accused him of taking mail from “company B” in Demotte.

It does not allege he cashed any checks. Police found 60 pieces of mail in his mail satchel from Demotte, Valparaiso, Michigan City, Effingham, Illinois, and Champaign, Illinois. Part of his plea bars federal prosecutors from filing additional charges.

Authorities believe he stole mail from February to June 2022.

U.S. District Judge Jon DeGuilio presided. Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Morgan prosecuted. Attorney Kerry Connor defended Green.
