Man in custody after police investigation in Whiting leads to drugs, guns

A 24-year-old man is in custody after a six-month investigation into illicit drug dealing by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Drug Task Force, according to a release.

Police confiscated four guns, a large amount of marijuana and THC products, and hallucinogenic mushrooms from a house in Whiting.

Officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Drug Task Force and Tactical Unit executed a search warrant on Nov. 19 at the home in the 2500 block of Schrage Avenue, Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. said in the release.

Officers seized the following during the search: 6 pounds of vegetative marijuana; 2,096 THC vape cartridges; 197.2 grams of psilocybin mushrooms; 1.2 grams of fentanyl; four firearms; and  $5,687 in U.S. currency.

The man in custody could face felony charges, according to the release.
