The Lake County Coroner’s office has released the identification of a man killed in an April 4 vehicle accident on the Borman Expressway.
Ty Freimuth, 39, of the 1400 block of Ferry Street in Niles, Michigan, died of blunt force injuries, a Lake County Coroner’s office release said Wednesday. Freimuth died when the vehicle he was traveling in was hit at high speed and pushed under a trailer.
Around 1:25 p.m., a semi was traveling in the second lane from the left on eastbound Interstate 80/94 near the Columbia Avenue overpass when it started to slow for traffic, according to an Indiana State Police news release.
A Kia Sorento SUV was slowing or stopping behind the semi when it was rear-ended by a second semi traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact crushed the Kia underneath the trailer of the semi in front, police said.
A third semi was also hit from behind in the crash.
Freimuth’s wife, who was the driver of the Kia, and a child who was also a passenger were transported to a hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, police have said.
