A man from Island Lake has been sentenced to six years in state prison in connection with the drug-related homicide of a St. Charles man, officials announced on Thursday.
Daniel Carmody, 48, agreed to the sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to the offense of drug-induced homicide, which is a felony, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
On or around May 10, 2021, Carmody delivered heroin and cocaine to Daniel Liewald, 31, of St. Charles, officials said in the release. Liewald ingested the substances and was later found to have died from fentanyl and cocaine intoxication, officials said.
Carmody must serve at least 75% of the sentence per state law, but he receives credit for nine days served in the Kane County jail, the release stated.
Carmody must also pay $5,418 in restitution to the victim’s family, according to the release.
The case was investigated by the North Central Narcotics Task Force and the St. Charles Police Department, officials said.
