A man was stabbed to death in a Southwest Side home late Sunday morning, authorities said.
The man, whom the Cook County medical examiner’s office identified as Yonangel X. Martinez, was found in an apartment located at 1418 W. 49th Pl. around 11:20 a.m. Sunday with a stab wound to the chest. According to the medical examiner’s office, Martinez, 33, lived on the same block where he was killed. An autopsy conducted Monday ruled his death a homicide.
Police said officers had come to the apartment for a call of a person stabbed and found Martinez unresponsive. He was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead around 1:25 p.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Police said there was no one in custody and that Area One detectives were investigating the stabbing.
