A North Chicago man has been charged in the February kidnapping of a woman on her way home from a Waukegan night club, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Jonatan Luna-Carrasco, 28, of the 1100 block of Adams Street, was taken into custody Saturday after a warrant for his arrest was issued earlier in March, police said. Authorities said Monday that he may be involved in additional similar incidents.
Luna-Carrasco is charged in a Feb. 25 kidnapping along Illinois Route 41, near Wadsworth.
Police said the victim, a 22-year-old Whitewater, Wisconsin, woman and a witness had been at a club and were driving home at around 2:10 a.m.
Police said Luna-Carrasco pulled alongside their car and said they had a flat tire. He told them to pull over and he would help change the tire. He told the 22-year-old woman to sit in his car to stay warm, but when the woman got inside, Luna-Carrasco drove away, police said.
The victim jumped from the car in the 3500 block of Highland Avenue in Gurnee and ran to a nearby house for help.
She provided a description of a vehicle that police said matches the Dodge Durango driven by Luna-Carrasco. Police continued to investigate and obtained a warrant for Luna-Carrasco’s arrest on kidnapping charges on March 21.
He is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing Tuesday.
Police said Monday they believe Luna-Carrasco has committed similar crimes. Anyone who has additional information should contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at (847) 377-4000.
