On Monday, the St. Charles City Council voted to approve former City Clerk Nancy Garrison to return to her post temporarily while the city accepts applications for the position.
The position was left vacant because Susan Hanson, who ran unopposed in the April 1 election, relocated downstate for work outside of the St. Charles city limits, according to past reporting.
At Monday’s meeting, Mayor Clint Hull made a recommendation to appoint Garrison as the interim clerk, which was approved by the City Council.
Following council approval, the city is now accepting applications for the position. St. Charles City Administrator Heather McGuire said that, since Hanson did not submit a formal declaration to withdraw from the position, the City Council had to approve two resolutions to declare the vacancy and for the city to accept applications for the position, both of which passed at Monday’s meeting.
Candidates interested in applying to be the St. Charles city clerk must reside within the city limits, and can apply for the appointment by submitting a resume and letter of interest to Deputy Clerk Marzena Sheets at msheets@stcharlesil.gov, according to a news release from the city.
Hull will make the appointment of the new city clerk with the advice and consent of the City Council. The person appointed to the position will serve a two-year term, and the position will be up for election in 2027.
Applications will be accepted through June 9, McGuire said at Monday’s meeting, with the goal of appointing the new clerk at the June 16 City Council meeting.
