Former Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority chairman Stephen Mays has returned to the board as a member. He was appointed by Mayor Eddie Melton.
Mays left the board four years ago when former mayor Jerome Prince named four new members.
Authority chairman Peter J. Visclosky welcomed Mays back to the board at Wednesday’s meeting.
Mays replaces William Cook, who was named to the Gary Sanitary Board of Commissioners by Melton.
Also, the authority approved a $60,500 contract with Forvis LLP to conduct a 2022 audit. The State Board of Accounts also has to approve the contract.
The airport’s U.S. customs facility is approaching its 500th arrival, officials said. A ceremony is being planned to mark the arrival. The U.S. Border Customs and Border Protection facility opened in 2018.
