McHenry man dies from injuries suffered in Aug. 19 motorcycle accident

A McHenry man has died from injuries he received in a motorcycle accident this past weekend, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday.

Steven Mapson, 42, died from blunt force injuries early Sunday at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, the coroner’s office said.

Mapson was injured Friday when he was ejected from his motorcycle around 6:24 p.m. near the intersection of Illinois Route 120 and Chapel Hill Road near McHenry.

Another cyclist was also ejected from his motorcycle in the same incident. That rider, a 39-year-old Wonder Lake man, was seriously injured, authorities said.

McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies, along with McHenry police and firefighters, responded to the accident.

Both riders were brought to a McHenry hospital, and Mapson was later transferred to the Libertyville facility. Authorities said he died around 12:06 a.m. Sunday.

The accident remains under investigation.
