Merrillville man killed in Gary gas station shooting

A Merrillville man was shot and killed at a Gary gas station early Monday morning.

Christian Farmer, 21 of the 600 block of E. 54th Place, at around 2 a.m. June 10th was pronounced dead at the Citgo gas station, 4700 Broadway, according to a Lake County Coroner’s release Tuesday. Family members identified him, according to the release.

Farmer’s death was ruled a homicide from multiple gunshot wounds, the release said.

That gas station has been the site other shootings, the Post-Tribune previously reported.

In September 2023, a Gary teen was charged after allegedly shooting a dad trying to get his son’s stolen bike back. Xavier Maypray, 18, was charged with two counts of battery and is scheduled to go to trial in September 2024.

In another incident, Chicago resident Larry Boston claimed self-defense in after he shot a friend as they argued on the way back from a barber shop on July 8, 2020, but he was convicted of murder and armed robbery with a firearms enhancement in 2022.
