Metra says trains stopped in north suburbs after freight train strikes pedestrian

Metra’s trains on the Milwaukee District North Line are halted near Lake Forest and “extensive delays anticipated” after a freight train struck a pedestrian Friday afternoon, according to a Metra service alert. 

MDN inbound and outbound trains were halted, the alert issued just after noon said. The estimated length of the delays is unknown. 

The Lake Forest Police Department said on Facebook that it’s investigating the accident, and said to expect delays to vehicle and train traffic in the area. 

Officials have not yet provided information on the victim’s condition or the cause of the incident.
