A Metra train struck a pedestrian near the Main Street Railroad Crossing in Downers Grove Tuesday morning, according to Downers Grove officials. It is the second day in a row a pedestrian has been hit in that area.
Downers Grove Police Department responded to a report of a person hit by a Metra train heading eastbound at the 1000 block of Burlington Avenue near the Main Street Railroad Crossing around 7:33 a.m., village officials said. According to Metra, the BNSF train hit the pedestrian was originally scheduled to arrive at Chicago Union Station at 8:00 a.m.
Village officials said that the pedestrian struck was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Some trains were delayed this morning following the collision. According to Metra’s latest update, BNSF train #1252, scheduled to arrive at Chicago Union Station at 10:20 a.m., will express from La Grange to Chicago Union Station. BNSF train #1254 will accommodate customers at intermediate stops.
On Monday, another BNSF train hit a pedestrian by the Downers Grove/Main Street stop around 4:30 p.m., Metra said.
