A three-bedroom, 1,793-square-foot mid-century house in the Southwest Side Morgan Park neighborhood was listed in October, and it now has a new price tag of $595,000.
Built in 1952 and designed by Beverly architect Rudolph Boehm, the house sits on more than a half-acre — which is unusually large for a residential property inside Chicago city limits — with a very deep, 250-foot lot from front to back, on a block with no alleys. The house has two full bathrooms, two fireplaces, an eat-in kitchen with a Dutch door to the backyard, a living room with a fireplace and a primary bedroom with hardwood floors and two walk-in closets. The home also has a full, walk-out basement with another fireplace, a large rec room with Italian tile, a wet bar and a bonus room. The third floor has a bedroom and loft.
Recent upgrades include custom designer wool carpeting in the third-floor bedroom, custom awnings, a custom double-electric stove with gas burners, a stainless steel refrigerator and a new roof.
“It’s got great curb appeal from the outside, and when I walked inside, the thing that I felt first was that the house was laid out perfectly, and the room sizes were luxuriously comfortable,” listing agent Jeremy Vitell of Baird & Warner told Elite Street. “Even though it’s a raised ranch or a tri-level, it felt like the house was ahead of its time by being an open-concept home yet having separation for family and entertaining. This house is ideal for larger families and for those who like to entertain, and the way it’s also situated on the lot, it has just as much, if not more, backyard space than its front space with the red brick driveway.”
The current owners paid $223,000 for the property in 1998.
The house first was listed in October for $645,000. Its asking price was reduced to $635,000 in November, $619,900 in December and $595,000 in early January.
The house sits on two lots. Together, the combined property had a $7,695 property tax bill in the 2022 tax year.
