Montgomery set to light village’s Christmas tree

Montgomery will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting event at 5 p.m. Sunday in front of Village Hall, 200 N. River St.

The event will feature Santa, giveaways, musical performances and the opening of the Festival of Trees, which will run through Dec. 26 at Village Hall and along River Street, village officials said.

School children in various classrooms are busy completing paper ornaments that will cover the village’s Christmas tree.

The event will begin with Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving in a Montgomery Countryside Fire District fire truck at 5 p.m. Santa and Montgomery Village President Matt Brolley will then flip the switch to light the village’s Christmas tree, as well as another 20 trees along the street, decorated by local businesses and organizations.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will go inside Village Hall for visits and pictures until 7 p.m. The Oswego East Tri-M Music Honor Society will perform in the Board Room for those waiting in line to see Santa.

Guests can wander to Atrevete Confections at 216 N. River St. for a free hot chocolate or head to Gray’s Mill Estate at 211 N. River St. for a cookie during the festivities.

In addition, guests can watch live musical performances outdoors from Oswego East Jazz Ensemble students and enjoy professional strolling carolers, the Festive Singers, along River Street. There will also be a holiday “touch a truck” event at 5:30 p.m.

The Festival of Trees, which opens during Sunday’s event, will run through Dec. 26 and includes trees decorated by residents, families, businesses and organizations both indoors at Village Hall and outdoors along River Street between Webster and Mill streets. The trees inside Village Hall will be available for viewing during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
