Morton Grove village officials announced that the water supply rate increase the town received from its supplier means residents will see a cost bump in their rates.
“In line with an increase of 1.4% received by the Village for 2025 water supply, the Village increased the water rate for Morton Grove consumers by 1.4%,” officials stated in the village’s electronic newsletter.
Officials are seemingly OK with the increase they call “modest,” comparing it to the village’s experience with its previous supplier, the city of Chicago.
“The Village has been fortunate that since switching [completely] to Evanston in 2020, the water rate has stabilized significantly and has since been lower than staying with Chicago,” according to the newsletter post.
Officials say the rate increase helps cover the additional costs to supply water to Morton Grove and still continue to provide such village services as replacing water mains as needed, purchasing new pumps for the water pumping station to supply water locally and modernizing the systems that monitor the water system.
“The increase will be reflected going forward for any water usage after January 1, 2025, and residents and businesses will start seeing that change with their water bills starting in February,” officials stated in the newsletter.
