Most Elgin City Council members support lowering the education requirements to test for a chance to become an Elgin police officer. A formal vote is still needed, but council members said Wednesday they like the idea of broadening and diversifying the pool of candidates that only requiring a high school diploma could foster. Members connected to Elgin’s Black Lives Matter group disagree.
