Most NWI schools announce e-learning days for Tuesday due to cold temperatures

Many Northwest Indiana school districts will shift to an e-learning day on Tuesday due to freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills.

Both Purdue University Northwest campuses in Hammond and Westville will operate remotely on Tuesday, with classes being held virtually. All on-site services, events and activities scheduled at the Hammond or Westville campuses for Jan. 21 are canceled. Crown Point, Hobart, Highland, Lake Central, Hanover, Tri-Creek, Duneland, Portage Township, East Porter, Hebron, River Forest, and Lake Station schools will be having asynchronus e-learning days, which means students work on assignments at their own pace and teachers are available for assistance throughout the day.

East Chicago is doing live virtual instruction from 8-11 a.m., with students expected to post completed assignments in the afternoon. The district is using its bus fleet to distribute bag lunches between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to various locations. Check out https://www.scec.k12.in.us/ for locations.
