Police said Tuesday they were continuing to investigate the fatal stabbing of a man at a Mundelein apartment Monday morning.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office Tuesday identified the victim as Michael Murphy, 53, of Mundelein. A woman was reported to be in custody, but no charges have been filed.
The coroner’s office said Murphy died from “multiple sharp force injuries.”
Police were called to the 1400 block of Downing Place at the Park Butterfield apartments at 5:10 a.m. Monday and found Murphy unconscious with a stab wound in the upper torso. He was brought to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead.
Police tried to talk to the woman, who was there, and whom police believe made the 911 call. However, she was “incoherent and uncooperative with officers,” police said.
The woman, 44, also had injuries and she was brought to the hospital for treatment, police said.
“While checking the apartment for additional witnesses or injured persons, it became apparent that there had been an altercation and the male’s injuries were sustained inside the apartment,’ Mundelein police said.
There is a history of domestic-related calls related to Murphy and the woman, police said.
