A bicyclist remained in critical condition Monday, two days after being hit by a car near Libertyville, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The rider, a 33-year-old Mundelein man, was hit at around noon Saturday near the intersection of West Rockland Avenue and the Des Plaines River pedestrian and bike trail.
Authorities said the man was riding north on the trail and attempting to cross West Rockland when he was struck by a Gurnee man driving a Toyota Prius. The impact caused the cyclist to be thrown onto the front windshield of the Prius before he fell off to the ground, police said.
The cyclist was brought to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the Prius and his passenger, a small child, were not hurt.
The collision remains under investigation.
