Murder charges were announced Thursday against a South Shore woman accused of fatally stabbing a cancer-ridden man inside his home last fall.
Catherine Perry, 34, is expected to appear before a judge Friday for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building to face first-degree murder charges in the Oct. 14 stabbing death of Tony Landers, 61. Perry also faces a felony attempted-arson charge.
Landers was found dead Oct. 14 in his apartment in the 7100 block of East End Avenue, according to authorities. An autopsy determined that he died of sharp force injuries in a homicide.
Perry was identified as the person who killed Landers, police said, giving no details on a possible motive.
Relatives told WLS-TV that they looked after Landers, a lung cancer survivor who became mute after having his voice box removed.
At the time of Landers’ death, Perry was wanted on an arrest warrant for missing court on a retail theft charge, according to court records.
