Naperville man gets 6-year prison term for providing drugs that killed an Aurora man

A Naperville man who provided the ketamine that killed an Aurora man in an overdose death has been sentenced to six years in prison by a Kane County judge.

Samuel M. Nesnidal, 27, of the 2300 block of Putman Drive, pleaded guilty in May to a charge of drug-induced homicide, a class X felony, stemming from the October 2020 death of 23-year-old Austin Bank at his home, a Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office news release said.

Bank died from fentanyl and ketamine intoxication, according to an autopsy and toxicology analysis.

Nesnidal must serve at least 75% of the sentence per state law and was ordered to pay $20,034 in restitution to the victim’s family as part of Judge John Barsanti’s sentence, the release said. He will receive credit for two days served in the Kane County jail.

“This case underscores the critical role that drug-induced homicide charges play in combating the devastating impact of illicit drug sales,” Assistant State’s Attorney Kelly Orland said in a statement. “It ensures that those who knowingly distribute dangerous substances are held accountable for their actions, instead of continuing to prey on vulnerable individuals struggling with addiction.”
