Park district planning more than 30 controlled burns this spring
The Naperville Park District will conduct controlled burns this spring at more than 30 locations to clear invasive weeds and reduce leaf and plant debris on the ground.
These intentionally set burns are designed to improve the health of an ecosystem and typically take place in the spring and fall, park district officials said. The district must obtain permits from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Naperville Fire Department to conduct them, the district website said.
Weather conditions must be right for a burn to be done, officials said. The ground needs to be sufficiently warm, grass dormant, wind velocity and chance of precipitation low, and wind direction specific to the burn site.
