Park facility rental applications can be submitted next week

Applications to rent one of Naperville Park District’s pavilions and picnic areas for the winter season can be submitted starting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.

Residents who do not live within park district boundaries may apply starting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.

The winter rental season is from Jan. 1 to March 1. Among the facilities available to rent for large events and celebrations are DuPage River Park, 808 Royce Road; Frontier Sports Complex-East, 3415 Book Road; Knoch Knolls Park, 320 Knoch Knolls Road; Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, 912 Honorary Sindt Memorial Court; Seager Park, 1163 Plank Road; and Wolf’s Crossing Community Park, 3253 Wolf’s Crossing Road.

Park capacities range from 100 to 250 people. Fees are $100. Park rental requests must be made at least three weeks in advance, and renters must be 21 or older.

Permits are required if a group is more than 25 people, if alcohol is present, or if the party will be using fire pits or grills, an inflatable bounce house apparatus or have a large tent.

BrightSide Theatre to host blood drive with ‘Dracula’ show

BrightSide Theatre is planning a blood drive to coincide with its upcoming production of “Dracula.”

The blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Naperville Woman’s Club meeting room, 14 S. Washington St. Walk-ins are welcome, or donors can make an appointment online at donateblood.versiti.org.

BrightSide Theatre is working with Versiti Blood Center of Illinois to help increase the supply of blood for those in need.

Anyone donating blood will receive a coupon for discounted tickets to the company’s upcoming production of “Dracula,” which will run from Oct. 18 to Nov. 3 at the Theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St.

At the blood drive, cast members of the production, including Dracula, will mingle with donors, and the Naperville Women’s Club will serve cookies and juice.

College of DuPage to hold Fall Open House in November

Prospective students can learn about the College of DuPage’s academic programs at its Fall Open House, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the school’s Physical Education Center Arena, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.

More than 60 program representatives will be on hand to help students identify possible career paths at the free, public event. Support services for registration, financial aid, academic advising, transferring and student life will be available to help guide students and discuss the enrollment process.

A general admission and financial aid presentation will be offered in English and Spanish.

Complimentary refreshments, a massage and a live martial arts demonstration will be part of the event. Registration is required at www.cod.edu/open-house.
