Interfaith prayer service set for Jan. 5 at Wentz Concert Hall
The Naperville/DuPage County interfaith community will mark the 20th anniversary of its World Peace Day interfaith prayer service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at the Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.
The prayer service is co-sponsored by 23 faith communities in DuPage County. It will feature presentations from the Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, Bahai, Unitarian Universalist and Hindu communities, organizers said in a news release.
All co-sponsors have signed a statement committing to peace, inclusion, mutual respect, compassion and human rights, including the right to religious freedom and the rejection of all forms of religious nationalism, according to the release.
The annual service celebrates the diversity of the county’s faith communities and serves as voice against intolerance, discrimination and fear-inspired hatred of minority communities, organizers said.

Greene Valley upgrades included in forest preserve budget
Upgrades to the trails, roads and parking lots at Greene Valley Forest Preserve in Naperville are among the projects the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has included in its $126.7 million budget for 2025, district officials said.
The budget will support several projects to enhance recreation, improve infrastructure, restore habitats and advance sustainability efforts throughout the county preserves.
In addition to Greene Valley, the district is planning infrastructure upgrades at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Pratt’s Wayne Woods Forest Preserve in Wayne and Salt Creek Marsh Forest Preserve in Itasca, a news release said.
The district also will undertake habitat-restoration projects at Egermann Woods and Hickory Grove in Lisle, Fischer Woods in Bensenville, Herrick Lake in Wheaton and West DuPage Woods in West Chicago.
They’ll also be building a new natural resources and grounds campus in West Chicago and a net-zero DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center in Glen Ellyn, the release said.
The board approved the district’s annual levy of about $68.4 million, which accounts for more than two-thirds of the district’s annual revenue, and agreed to issue $85 million in bonds to fund long-term capital expenditures, the release said.
