Linden Oaks to host Eating Disorder Recovery celebration, vigil
Endeavor Health Linden Oaks Hospital will host the 17th annual Eating Disorder Recovery Celebration and Candlelight Vigil from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 20, on the Edward Hospital campus, 852 S. West St., Naperville.
The public event resumes after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will feature recovery speakers, musical performances, activities and refreshments. Registration is necessary to attend.
This year’s theme is “Grow Through What You Go Through,” and celebrates each milestone those with eating disorders reach no matter where they are in their recovery, organizers said in a news release.
Community members can gather and support one another at the vigil, share stories and give hope to others, organizers said. The event provides support for families, commemorates those who have lost their lives and recognizes those who have recovered.
The Endeavor Health Linden Oaks Behavioral Health center treats patients 11 years old and older for a variety of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, bulimia nervosa and orthorexia. The hospital offers inpatient services, group therapy, counseling and support groups.

Local students win awards at recent SkillsUSA Workforce Championships
Many local student earned medals at the SkillsUSA Illinois 2024 Championships last month, and now move on to the national SkillsUSA Championships this month in Atlanta.
Several local high school students were among the top finishers in their categories, including Naperville Central High School student Hunter Ernstm who earned a bronze medal, placing third in the automotive service technology contest.
Neuqua Valley High School student earned gold, silver and bronze medals.
Bhavin Adaveni, Siddhant Haralkar, JunHee Kim and Rinush Thiagu took first in the career pathways showcase: business, management and technology contest. Andy Yu earned first in medical math. Vrishank Doddapuneni, Ronak Khatri, Ricky Kim, Armaan Sidhu, Avaneesh Thiyagarajan, Evan Yang and Andy Yu earned first in quiz bowl.
Sophia Wang won gold in related technical math. Aditya Byju, Ronak Khatri and Shritan Settipalli earned gold in web design and development. Armaan Sidhu won silver in both medical math and related technical math. Aditya Byju won bronze in both cyber security and extemporaneous speaking. Also earning bronze in cyber security was Rinush Thiagu.
Waubonsie Valley High School students also were among the top competitors.
Sajiv Harikrishnan, Saye Vikram Karthikeyan and Akshath Sivachidhambaram earned a gold medal in the career pathways showcase: health services. Karshin Nair earned gold in extemporaneous speaking. Akshath Sivachidhambaram won gold in the internet of things and smart home contest.
Zahra Chishti placed first in principles of engineering/technology. Aakash Kolli placed first in the technical spelling contest. Earning silver in 3-D visualization and animation were Surya Kalyan and Sanjith Yelavarthy. Marco Campagna and Jay Singh earned silver in cyber security. Simran Tarigopula won silver in prepared speech.
Waubonsie Valley students who won a bronze medals were Shaanveer Dhaliwal for electronics technology, Surya Kalyan and Sanjith Yelavarthy for mechatronics, Karshin Nair for prepared speech and Akshath Sivachidhambaram for related technical math.
Metea Valley High School students who placed first in chapter business procedure were Akshat Balachander, Pratyush Mundadi, Shunya Patel, Atiksh Rai, Adeep Rakesh and Heri Ryu. Pranav Tummala earned gold in dental assisting.
In the entrepreneurship contest, Metea’s first-place winners were Harshita Anandabarathi, Pragya Iyer, Pragya Iyer and Sarayu Maddala. Gold medal winners in the interactive application and video game development contest were: Muthamizh Arrasu Kamaraj and Vijayasriram Velmurugan.
Ajay Kavuri and SaiManidhar Mutyala won gold in the mobile robotics technology contest. Shunya Patel won gold in prepared speech.
Jacob Janik and Sai Manidhar Mutyala placed second, earning a silver medal, in additive manufacturing. Saket Gajara, Ananya Nair, Suchita Rao and Sumita Sivakadachan won silver in the health knowledge bowl. Heri Ryu placed second in the health occupations professional portfolio contest.
Adharsh Laguduva and Ramshray Rajesh placed second in mobile robotics technology. Diksha Metri placed second in principles of engineering/technology. Suhas Palla and Saujas Patil earned silver in the web design and development contest.
Several Metea students earned bronze medals, including Mihir Arya, Heri Ryu, Anirudh Siluveru and Srihan Vege for entrepreneurship. Pratyush Mundadi and Atiksh Rai earned bronze for interactive application and video game development. Nitin Gopala earned bronze for medical math, and Ananya Nair earned bronze for medical terminology.
Shauryan Giri and Yuyao Wang earned bronze for mobile robotics technology. Hitaksh Tanna placed third in principles of engineering/technology. In the web design and development category, Anirudh Siluveru and Srihan Vege earned a bronze medal.
