Naperville News Digest: Naperville woman to receive Outstanding Mother Award; Naperville Park District budget now available for review

Naperville woman to receive Outstanding Mother Award

A Naperville mother of four is one of four area women chosen to receive a 2024 Outstanding Mother Award from the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago and the National Mother’s Day Council.

The recipients are to be recognized at a dinner Nov. 12 designed to spotlight the important role mothers play as mentors, guardians and leaders while balancing demanding careers, according to a news release from the American Lung Association.

Naperville resident Anna Kooi, a certified public accountant with 25 years of experience in the financial industry, is the mother of two girls and two boys and volunteers as a mentor and softball coach, her biography said. She also is a partner with Wipfli and leads their financial services practice.

The other women being recognized are Emily Chase, chief operating officer and executive vice president at the University of Chicago Medical Center; Kelly A. Dittmann, president and chief executive officer of Envira Global; and Tely Eagle, owner of the Drake Oak Brook Autograph Collection.

Naperville Park District budget now available for review

Naperville Park District’s proposed 2025 budget, which calls for $53.2 million in expenditures and goes into effect Jan. 1, is available online for public review and comment before adoption in December.

The tentative spending plan calls for $13.4 million in funding for capital projects, including playground renovations at Columbia Commons, Kroehler Park, Meadow Glens, Rose Hill Farms Park, West Greens, White Eagle Park and Willowgate Square.

Other capital projects, some of which span multiple years, include Nike Sports Complex site improvements, Polo Club Park and Fairlane Farms park developments, and Ron Ory Community Garden Plots site improvements.

The draft budget also lists some of the district’s 2025 goals, such as implementing recommendations from the indoor recreation space needs assessment, updating the strategic plan and updating the American with Disabilities Act transition plan.

The Naperville Park Board will review the plan at its 7 p.m. Nov. 14 meeting and vote on it at its 7 p.m. Dec. 12. Both meetings are at the Fort Hill Activity Center, 20 Fort Hill Drive, where the budget also is available to be viewed in person.

Health department offering insurance enrollment help

The DuPage County Health Department is providing help for residents enrolling in health care coverage either through renewing a plan or joining Marketplace.

If insurance is not available through an employer, Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program or another source, they can enroll in a Marketplace health insurance plan, a county news release said.

Open enrollment has begun for 2025 health coverage. Enrollments or renewals must be completed by Dec. 15 for coverage to start on Jan. 1.

New this enrollment year, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients may be eligible for Marketplace coverage as soon as Dec. 1, the release said. Financial assistance remains available to help lower the cost of insurance for individuals meeting the income eligibility criteria, the release said.

To make an appointment, call 630-682-7400. For more information, go to www.dupagehealth.org/healthinsurance.
