Naperville woman wins $500 gift card in workshop drawing
Naperville resident Laurie Polanski was the winner of a $500 gift card chosen in a drawing held as part of Naperville Park District’s Santa’s Naperville Workshop.
The workshop, located on the Naperville Riverwalk, gave people the opportunity to meet Santa from the end of November through Dec. 22. Participants could enter the random drawing through which the gift card winner was selected, a park district news release said.
The card was presented to Polanski and her daughter by “Woody” Woodring, owner of Woody Buick GMC, which sponsored the drawing.
Bands sought to play Last Fling over Labor Day weekend
Naperville Jaycees Last Fling organizers are seeking bands to play during its annual Labor Day weekend festival.
Musical artist submissions will be accepted online through Friday, Jan. 31, at LastFling.org/JacksonStage, a news release said. No other form of application will be accepted.
Applicants are required to provie the name of the act, contact name and phone number, performance price, music sample (including a video or YouTube link) and confirmation of availability between Aug. 29 and Sept. 1. Bands must have 90 to 120 minutes of material to be considered, the release said.
Gardening club to hold free garden planning program
The Naperville Community Gardeners Club will hold a free program on the essentials of gardening, “Pre-Planning Your Growing Season,” at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 1105 Catalpa Lane.
Among the topics to be discussed are what vegetables and flowers are the easiest to grow, how to rotate your garden to ensure healthy plants, tips on garden layouts to create “showstopper” spaces and information on gardening tools, apps and local resources, a news release said.
Participants are invited to bring sketches, plant lists and other things to share with the group and receive free advice, the release said.
