Naperville’s Hotel Arista recognized at industry ceremony

Hotel Arista was recognized for its sustainability initiatives at the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association’s annual Stars of the Industry awards ceremony held earlier this month.

The hotel, located at 2139 CityGate Lane, is the first LEED-certified hotel in Illinois and is also Green Seal certified, officials announced in a news release. It has green initiatives include sustainable housekeeping, hotel-wide recycling and a sustainable purchasing policy, a news release said. The hotel also uses low-flow water fixtures and carpeting made from recycled materials.

Valeria Serrano, human resources coordinator for CityGate Hospitality, also was recognized in the administrative employee category.

Serrano joined CityGate Hospitality in 2022 as an HR and recruiting administrator and was promoted earlier this year to human resources coordinator. She has a certificate in human resources management from the College of DuPage, the release said.

Magical Starlight Theatre to present musical ‘Cinderella’

Magical Starlight Theatre will present its production of the musical “Cinderella” from Jan. 10-12 and Jan. 17-19 at Naperville Central High School, 440 Aurora Ave.

Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 and 17; 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 and 18; and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12 and 19. A sign language interpreter will be present for the 1:30 p.m. Jan. 11 and the 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 performances, a Naperville Park District news release said.

The Broadway adaption is a contemporary take on the well-known fairy tale. The story follows Ella, who treats everyone with kindness despite unfair treatment from her stepmother, the release said. Ella’s good nature is rewarded when she is transformed by her Fairy Godmother and meets her prince at the ball.

Nicole Zralka, who stars as Ella, is making her debut performance with park district theater company.

Seating is general admission, and tickets are $20 in advance and $23 at the door.

St. Thomas to hold mental health first aid course

St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville is offering a two-part mental health first aid course.

The first part is an online, self-paced session that should take about two hours to complete. It will present an overview of mental health first aid, talk about common mental health disorders and review how to recognize signs and symptoms, a news release said.

An instructor will lead the second part, which will take place in person from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the 1500 Brookdale Road church. Participants will learn how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults 18 and older and how to offer and provide initial help to guide a person toward appropriate care, the release said.

The course will cover anxiety, depression, psychosis and addiction.
