NCC professor named State Department alumni ambassador

Quanisha Charles, an associate professor of English at North Central College in Naperville, has been selected by the U.S. Department of State as an alumni ambassador for English Language Programs.

Charles is one of only 10 English Language Program alumni chosen to be part of the 2024-25 Alumni Ambassador cohort, a news release from the State Department said.

She will represent English Language Programs at conferences and events around the country for the next year. Selected ambassadors are chosen yearly to share their stories and showcase the diversity of the English Language Programs community, the release said.

Charles has more than 15 years of experience teaching the English language and composition courses in the United States and abroad. Her teaching experience includes jobs in South Korea, China, Vietnam and virtually in Lebanon, the news release said. She has worked with private colleges, public universities and professional organizations.

She also serves on the TESOL Journal editorial board and as an advocacy leader in TESOL’s Social Responsibility Interest Section. The TESOL International Association provides the tools and resources needed in teaching English around the world.
