Naperville Running Company and Park District Partner for Snow Removal
For the 10th year, the Naperville Running Company has partnered with the Naperville Park District to remove snow on a two-mile trail in south Naperville so runners have a place to exercise this winter, Park District officials announced.
The trail extends from the Route 59 bridge through Frontier Sports Complex, Ashbury Park and Ashbury Greenway to Plainfield-Naperville Road.
Under the agreement, the park district will clear the trail after a snowfall of two inches or more, and the Naperville Running Company will reimburse the district for labor and materials, district officials said.
The Park District also removes snow on other trails as needed, including the Riverwalk, the DuPage River Trail between Burr Oak Park and DuPage River Park, and the trails at Commissioners Park, Country Lakes Park, Meadow Glens, Nike Sports Complex, Wil-O-Way Commons, Wildflower Park and Wolf’s Crossing Community Park.

DuPage County Approves New Parental Leave Policy
DuPage County is now offering eligible employees up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave through a new policy, county officials said.
The policy affects all full-time and part-time employees who have worked for the county for at least one year. These employees will be allowed to take leave to care for a newborn child or for the adoption of a child younger than 18 years old, county officials said.
“This policy will allow new parents to take the time they need to bond with their child without financial stress,” County Board Chair Deborah Conroy said in a statement. “We’re investing in our staff’s personal and professional success and ensuring that DuPage County can attract and retain great employees.”
“We Need a Little Christmas” Features Area Barbershop Singers
More than 70 barbershop singers from Chicago and the western suburbs will come together to present, “We Need a Little Christmas,” Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. at the Barrows Auditorium of the Billy Graham Center on the Wheaton College campus, 500 College Ave., in Wheaton.
The show will be repeated at 3 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar St., in St. Charles.
The show features the four-part harmonies of barbershop music sung acapella, organizers said. Members of various area barbershop organizations, including the Chorus of DuPage from Naperville, have combined their talents to form the group Northern Illinois Harmony Alliance.
The show will feature traditional holiday favorites such as “Winter Wonderland” and “Let it Snow” as well as a narration of Jesus’ birth and classic carols such as “Silent Night” and “Go Tell it on the Mountain.” The audience can join in singing “Joy to the World” at the end of the performance.
Tickets are $25 for general admission, $15 for those 18 years old and younger and free for children under 5.
Tickets are available at www.chorusofdupage.com/events or by calling 331-444-2740. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door, and the event is likely to sell out, organizers said.
