Park district seeking indoor recreation space focus groups

Naperville Park District officials are putting together two resident focus groups to provide feedback on the district’s indoor recreation space.

Residents interested in participating need to complete a short survey to be put on the interest list. Meetings will be held Wednesday, March 20, and Wednesday, April 3, with several sessions conducted on each day.

The input is part of a needs assessment being done on the district’s existing indoor recreation space. A plan based on community need is being drafted, based on the focus group findings, a community survey and open house events being held this spring and summer, officials said.

The effort is spurred by the large increase in participation in many indoor programs, which has caused challenges trying to accommodate all who wants to participate, officials said. Programs such as youth basketball and gymnastics have wait lists and memberships at the Fort Hill Fitness Center are now at nearly 8,000.

To be added to the focus group interest list, go to www.napervilleparks.org/indoorrecreationspaceneedsassessment by Monday, March 11.

Will County Museum presenting Riverview Farm history exhibit

A free exhibit on Naperville’s Riverview Farmstead will run through May 31 at the Isle a la Cache Museum, 501 E. Romeo Road, Romeoville.

The “Raising Riverview” exhibit will explore Will County’s agricultural roots and early Wheatland Township settlers, a Forest Preserve District of Will County news release said.

Visitors can learn how the farmstead went from prairie to farm to preserve, officials said. The exhibit will show how the Clow family created a farm in the 1800s along the DuPage River in a section of Wheatland Township that is now southern Naperville.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.

Visitors can explore the Riverview Farmstead Preserve on Book Road, south of Hassert Boulevard, on their own or part of a guided tour. The preserve has three historic farmstead structures, including two barns and a limestone house as well as paths along the DuPage River and a prairie.

Two programs on the preserve are also planned. In the first, an interpretative naturalist will talk about the struggles and successes of the Clow family in the 19th and 20th centuries in a free “Armchair Historian” program at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Isle a la Cache Museum.

The second is a free, 90-minute tour of the Riverview Farmstead being offered at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the preserve.
