Park district taking rental applications for spring season
The Naperville Park District is now accepting park rental applications from residents wanting to rent pavilions or picnic areas between April 1 and May 31.
Nonresidents may begin submitting their rental applications starting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.
Pavilions and park rentals are available at seven areas: DuPage River Park Pavilion, 808 Royce Road; Frontier Sports Complex-East Pavilion, 3415 Book Road; Knoch Knolls Frank J. Rus Pavilion and Knoch Knolls Park Lower Grove, both at 320 Knoch Knolls Road; Riverwalk Grand Pavilion, 912 Honorary Sindt Memorial Court; Seager Park Pavilion, 1163 Plank Road; and Wolf’s Crossing Community Park Pavilion, 3253 Wolf’s Crossing Road.
Park rental requests must be made at least three weeks in advance. Renters must be 21 or older.
Park rental permits are required if there will be more than 25 people attending an event, if alcohol will be present and/or if the users are planning to use the district’s fire rings, fire pits or grills or are bringing a large tent, multiple tents or inflatable entertainment.

DuPage Animal Services to hold pet first aid class
DuPage County Animal Services is offering a pet first aid/CPR course on basic medical techniques and common emergencies animals may encounter.
The program will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the animal services headquarters, 2255 Manchester Road, Wheaton.
Participants will learn first aid techniques for common cat and dog emergencies and trained on how to notice abnormalities and detect early warning signs in their pets, a news release said. Pre-vet care and life-saving techniques will be covered.
Open to anyone 16 or older, registration is is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $100 per person.

NEST to hold candidate forum on an environmental issues
The Naperville Environment and Sustainability Task Force, known as NEST, will host a candidate forum focused on environmental issues critical to Naperville’s future, officials said.
It will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at the First Congregational Church of Naperville, 25 E. Benton Ave., which is co-sponsoring the event.
Candidates for city council will discuss clean energy, public health, climate change and the city’s electricity contract, which relies heavily on coal power, a task force news release said.
The forum includes candidate introductions, prepared questions and audience questions.
“Residents will have a valuable opportunity to hear directly from candidates about their visions for creating a cleaner, healthier Naperville,” the release said.
