Local teachers honored by state board of education

The Illinois State Board of Education recognized more than 500 outstanding educators, administrators and staff for their impact in Illinois schools, including several who work in Naperville District 203 and Indian Prairie School District 204.

The awards were part of the annual Those Who Excel honors.

Amanda Yee, a teacher in District 203, was the recipient of an award of special recognition.

In SD 204, teachers Christina Min and Claire Johnson and educational service personnel Shirecia Holmes received awards of special recognition, and teacher Laura Reyes and student support personnel Sydnee Polk were given awards of excellence.

District 204 community volunteer Jillian Gibson was recognized with the award of meritorious service.

The award of excellence is considered the most prestigious of the Those Who Excel honors. Educators receiving the award must demonstrate a commitment to equity and the success of all students; collaboration with colleagues, students and families to create positive school cultures; efforts to connect their schools to the community; and the ability to inspire other education professionals, the ISBE website said.

The award of special recognition go to valued school members who have been recognized by their colleagues, students, families and administrators for the skills and passion they bring to their school. The award of meritorious service is given to those who have gone above and beyond in service to their school communities.
